Hearing Assessments

About Our Hearing Assessments

Our Hearing Assessments are a comprehensive process designed to accurately identify the type and degree of hearing loss you may be experiencing. By evaluating various aspects of your hearing, our assessments ensure that we can recommend the most effective solutions tailored to your unique needs. At Hearing Health Hub, we prioritise providing personalised care to each of our clients. We understand that hearing health is highly individual, and our goal is to offer the most appropriate hearing aids and support services that will enhance your hearing ability, improve your quality of life, and ensure you feel confident in your hearing solution.

Our team of experts will guide you through the assessment process, which typically includes a range of tests to assess both the outer and inner ear functions, speech recognition, and sound discrimination. This thorough examination will help us determine not only the severity of any hearing loss but also the most suitable hearing aids or other assistive devices for your lifestyle.

To further enhance the customisation of your care, we encourage you to provide any relevant information regarding your hearing history, such as previous hearing assessments, medical conditions, or circumstances that may have contributed to your hearing concerns. This background information will allow us to refine our recommendations, ensuring that the hearing aids and services we provide align with your specific needs and expectations.

At Hearing Health Hub, we are committed to making sure you receive a service that is as personalized and effective as possible. Our team will work closely with you to ensure that every aspect of your hearing health is addressed and that you are equipped with the right tools to improve your auditory experience. Whether you are looking for solutions for a recent hearing issue or seeking to enhance your hearing capabilities, we are here to support you every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What Is A Hearing Assessment?

A hearing assessment is a professional evaluation that measures how well you hear different pitches and volumes of sound. It helps identify whether you have hearing loss, what type it is, and the most appropriate way to manage it.

  • How Long Does A Hearing Assessment take?

A full hearing assessment typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes, covering an initial discussion of your hearing history, a physical check of your ears, and the hearing tests themselves.

  • Do I Need A Hearing Assessment If I Have No Symptoms?

Yes, it's still worth having your hearing checked periodically even without symptoms, since hearing loss often develops gradually and can go unnoticed until it starts affecting everyday conversations.

  • What Happens During A Hearing Assessment?

A hearing assessment usually starts with a discussion about your hearing concerns and medical history, followed by a physical examination of your ears, and then a series of tests where you respond to different tones and words played through headphones.

  • Is A Hearing Assessment Painful?

No, a hearing assessment is completely painless. It simply involves listening to sounds and words at different volumes and indicating when and what you hear.

  • How Often Should I Have My Hearing Checked?

Hearing checks are recommended every few years for most adults, becoming more frequent from around the age of 50. However, if you notice any changes in your hearing, it's best to book an assessment as soon as possible, regardless of when your last check was.

  • Can A Hearing Assessment Detect Hearing Loss Early?

Yes, a hearing assessment can identify hearing loss in its early stages, often before it becomes noticeable in daily life, which makes early management and treatment more effective.

  • Do I Need A Referral For A Hearing Assessment?

This depends on the route you take — private hearing assessments can usually be booked directly without a referral, while NHS hearing tests are typically accessed via a referral from your GP.

  • What Are The Signs That I Need A Hearing Assessment?

Common signs include difficulty following conversations in noisy environments, frequently asking people to repeat themselves, turning the TV or radio up louder than others prefer, and a sense that speech sounds muffled.

  • What Is The Difference Between A Hearing Test And A Hearing Assessment?

A hearing test typically refers to the core listening exercises that measure your hearing thresholds, while a hearing assessment is broader, including a discussion of your history and symptoms alongside the tests, to build a fuller picture of your hearing health.

  • Can Children And Older Adults Have A Hearing Assessment?

Yes, hearing assessments can be carried out for people of all ages, from young children through to older adults, with the approach adapted to suit the person being tested.

  • How Should I Prepare For A Hearing Assessment?

It helps to note down any hearing difficulties you've noticed, bring a list of current medications, and avoid loud noise exposure in the hours beforehand, as this can temporarily affect your results.

  • Can Earwax Affect The Results Of A Hearing Assessment?

Yes, a build-up of earwax can block sound from reaching the eardrum and may affect test results, so it's often checked for and addressed before or during the assessment.

  • What Should I Do If My Hearing Assessment Shows Hearing Loss?

If your hearing assessment shows hearing loss, your audiologist will explain the results and discuss the most suitable next steps. Depending on the type and severity of your hearing loss, this may include hearing aids or other treatment and support options.

I saw Rahim a few months ago with regards to poor hearing and frequent ear infections, not only was he extremely patient and caring, he was very informative of the process and anatomy of the ear, as well as helping with identification of an ear infection that I was not aware of - a great service and a lovely person

I first met Rahim when I took my mother for an appointment with him. He was very caring and explained everything very clearly and in a manner was informative without bombarding her with info she wouldn't need that might have been confusing to her.

I decided to pay Rahim a visit myself and was delighted with the friendly and efficient service to obtain hearing aids, without the pressure to buy. Every step was explained clearly and the hearing aids were delivered in less than a week. Great service..

The Bluetooth function from my hearing aids to my phone is fantastic.

I would recommend hearing health hub without hesitation.
Very professional service from Rahim, thanks again for clearing my ears, would highly recommend!

I first visited Rahim three years ago and received excellent care. So with a reoccurrence of wax build up again, I made another visit today and had fantastic care once more. It’s wonderful being able to hear again! I made my appointment online which was efficient and received a reminder too. Parking is plentiful and easy. Rahim is very friendly and knowledgeable. I can thoroughly recommend every aspect of Hearing Health Hub!
Came expecting both ears to be blocked but both were pretty clear already, and both ear drums where all fine. He removed the small amount of wax out my ear quickly and efficiently, and only charged me £30 for it. Would recommend for anyone needing wax removed from there ears. Will be going again in the future.

Rahim put me at ease by clearly explaining the steps of the procedure. The procedure itself was quick and pain free. Photos of inside of my ears were taken prior to the procedure and then again after the procedure. I can see clearly from the computer screen that the procedure was successful as both ears are free of wax. I would definitely recommend Rahim (Hearing Health Hub) to my friends and will book again in future.

A very professional experience, I would highly recommend Rahim and his clinic. Despite arriving early, he was happy to take the appointment. Having lost hearing in one ear for 3 weeks, it felt slightly surreal to hear out of my right ear again. Many thanks Rahim, all the best!

I was very happy with my treatment and the service provided. My treatment was completed after a second visit which was included in the original fee, therefore Hearing hub does not only provide good service/treatment but is very fair too. ( the fee is also better value than Boots ). I found the booking system very easy to use. Thank you.
